We're currently exploring what people are interested in to start some classes for Summer 2025!
Ruby on Rails is a powerful, beginner-friendly framework that makes building web applications fast and intuitive. Emphasizing convention over configuration, Rails handles much of the setup, letting you focus on creating features instead of wrestling with boilerplate code. Used by companies like Airbnb and GitHub, it's proven for both rapid prototyping and scalable growth. Whether you want to launch your own app or expand your coding skills, Rails provides a solid foundation in modern web development.
This course takes you from Rails novice to deploying your own app. You'll learn MVC architecture, work with databases using Active Record, and build intuitive user interfaces with RESTful routes. Hands-on projects ensure you apply concepts immediately, while code reviews and debugging sessions help sharpen your skills. By the end, you'll have a functional web app and the confidence to keep building.
Participants should have some previous experience with an object-oriented programming language, ideally Ruby, and also know the basics of HTML & CSS.
Each group will meet once or twice a week for most of the summer. Participants will also be invited to a Discord server to support what they're doing in between sessions. We'll primarily be meeting in person, but we can also have calls going for people that are traveling.
Enrollment in the Rails Workshop is $500. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify.
We're gauging interest to run a class or three in Summer 2025!
We offer personalized support where we'll match you up with an instructor who can help you work on whatever technology projects or skills that you want!
Most of this will cost around $30 an hour. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify.
Did you know that the Indiana Department of Education & our schools allow teachers to teach these college-level courses in Computer Science without any substantial background in software development & computer science? It's hard to learn stuff from people who don't have a strong grasp on the material themselves.
We pair small groups of students up with expert software engineers & people that know what it takes to do well on the AP® exams. This is also a great opportunity for students with a little bit of background knowledge who would benefit from some additional structure to help them prepare without having to take the classes.
Each group will have one or two 90-minute meetings a week for 14 weeks during the spring semester.
Enrollment is $600 per class. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify.
